JD Clayton deslumbra con Long Way From Home

Last weekend, JD Clayton made his fantastic debut with «Long Way From Home». This absolute gem of a record is gushing with simplicity and absolutely void of fillers and clichés. Produced by Thomas Dulin (Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors), it’s impossible to get tired of his already trademark sound that is a beautiful mix of different eras and different genres.

Son «Hello, good mornin’ y «American Millonaire».

The album opens up with an acoustic guitar and the sound of birds chirping, with JD Clayton flies high beside them, soaring to blue-eyed-soul heights before coming back down, kicking up dust with his tattered boots on «Hello, good morning» and «American Millionaire». «Beauty Queen», a rhythmic trot that evokes Johnny Cash’s Tennessee Tree and true Americana; a melting pot of influences seeped in American folk that flows sumptuously until it plunges into the land of Merle Haggard and Bakersfield on what comes next: «Goldmine», the sensational «Cotton Candy Clouds», the earth-shattering «Different Kind of Simple Life» and «Long Way From Home».

«Heartaches after Heartbreaks» is one of the highlights of this album: it will knock you off your feet and carry you away to that bygone place that reminds you of hell. Empty bottles, once full of promises, are now just a shadow of what they used to be on the lonesome vocals of «Midnight Special,» a tribute to Fogerty and the CCR on that Leadbelly classic.

JD Clayton brings the record to a close under a blue moon and the greenest of trees on a bluegrass-laden «Sleepy at Night in Nashville», where you take it all in, tucked safe away in a shadowy sanctuary. And don’t forget to listen to his first EP, “Smoke out the fire». It’ll open your eyes and make you see that our lives are just paths that cross in the forest. And «Long Way From Home» is one of those such paths. Impeccable.
