Regresando por tercera vez a las tablas de la sala Babylon en León, SATURNA, un cuarteto de rock clásico oriundo del norte de España, reafirmó su condición de maestros del género. Compuesto por Rod Tirado (bajo), James Vieco (voz principal / guitarra), Enric Verdaguer (batería) y Max Eriksson (guitarra), SATURNA ofreció una cautivadora exhibición de música atemporal el viernes pasado (26 de abril).
Returning for their third performance at Babylon in León, Spain, SATURNA, a classic rock quartet hailing from the north of Spain, reaffirmed their status as masters of the genre. Consisting of Rod Tirado on bass, James Vieco on lead vocals and guitar, Enric Verdaguer on drums, and Max Eriksson on guitar, SATURNA delivered a captivating exhibition of timeless music.

A medida que el público se dejaba llevar por el ritmo, «On Fire» incendió la sala con la pura intensidad del dinámico tamborileo de Verdaguer, enviando astillas de baquetas volando por el aire. Al transicionar a “A Way to Reset”, SATURNA exhibió su habilidad para fusionar el ritmo con armonías intrincadas, conquistando a los oyentes con cada giro melódico.
As the crowd swayed to the rhythm, «On Fire» ignited the venue with the sheer intensity of Verdaguer’s dynamic drumming that sent drumstick shrapnel soaring through the air. Transitioning seamlessly into «A Way to Reset,» SATURNA showcased their ability to blend groove with intricate harmonies, winning over the listeners with each melodic turn last Friday (April 26th).
También surgieron momentos de intimidad, como la serena apertura de “Smile”. La virtuosidad de Eriksson (que también es miembro de otra banda de Barcelona – The Mothercrow) en su impresionante Flying V destacaba y, junto a la voz de Vieco, añadieron una nueva dimensión a su paleta sonora.
Moments of intimacy also emerged, such as the serene opening of «Smile.» Eriksson’s virtuosity on his stunning Flying V was showcased, while Vieco changed his Epiphone for a Gretsch, adding a new dimension to the quartett’s sonic palette.
A medida que interpretaron otras pistas de su última obra maestra, The Reset (2023, Spinda Records / Discos Macarras) la cohesión de SATURNA como banda era palpable, con cada miembro contribuyendo a un tapiz sonoro extremadamente unificado. “Whimsical Selfishness”, el tema que abre el álbum, vio a Eriksson cambiar su Flying V por una Gibson SG, marcando un cambio de tono acompañado por el inquebrantable respaldo rítmico de Tirado y Verdaguer.
As they went on to play other tracks from their latest masterpiece The Reset (2023, Spinda Records / Discos Macarras), SATURNA’s cohesion as a band was palpable, with each member contributing to a unified sonic tapestry. «Whimsical Selfishness» saw Eriksson trade his Flying V for a Gibson SG, signaling a shift in tone accompanied by Tirado and Verdaguer’s unwavering rhythmic backbone.

El hipnotizante set continuó con canciones como “Into the Sun”, el ritmo contagioso de “A Few Words to Say” (¡echa un vistazo y oído a su videoclip!) y el emocionante duelo de guitarras en “The Sign”. El talento de los cuatro músicos, tanto individualmente como en su conjunto, es más que evidente.
The mesmerizing performance continued with songs like «Into the Sun», the infectious rhythm of «A Few Words to Say» (check out their videoclip) and the exhilarating guitar duel in «The Sign.» The four musicians’ talent, not only individually but also as a collective force, was more than evident.
La noche llegaba a su fin con “Made of Stone” y, resonando con autenticidad y musicalidad, SATURNA dejó una marca indeleble en la sala. Para los presentes, fue un testimonio del poder perdurable del rock clásico y su capacidad para inspirar a varias generaciones.

No me cabe duda de que SATURNA es una de las mejores bandas aquí en España. Su nivel de composición, las voces y melodías, su conexión hermética y habilidad musical es difícil de encontrar hoy en día y sinceramente, me sorprende cómo han logrado pasar casi desapercibidos para mí durante tanto tiempo.
