FUMEGA FEST 2026: Betanzos vuelve a tensar el aire y a poner Galicia en el mapa del underground europeo

Hay festivales que nacen buscando su hueco y otros que, sin proponérselo, terminan abriendo uno nuevo. Fumega Fest pertenece a los segundos. Tras una primera edición que dejó el Parque do Pasatempo literalmente vibrando de riffs pesados, el evento regresa los días 26 y 27 de junio de 2026 para consolidar lo que ya apunta maneras de convertirse en una cita clave del stoner rock y doom metal en la Península Ibérica.

Some festivals show up hoping to find their place; others just appear and, before anyone notices, carve out a place of their own. Fumega Fest is clearly in the second camp. Its debut turned the Parque do Pasatempo into a resonant chamber of heavy riffs and humid, electric air. Now, on June 26 and 27, 2026, the festival returns looking less like an upstart and more like a rising anchor point for stoner and doom on the Iberian Peninsula.

Lo interesante del Fumega no es solo su cartel (que esta vez pone a Conan, Stoned Jesus, Burst y Causa Sui al frente) sino cómo encaja ese imaginario sonoro, denso y expansivo en un lugar tan cargado de memoria como Betanzos. El Parque do Pasatempo, con su mezcla de historia local y fantasías arquitectónicas, funciona como un escenario natural para lo atmosférico; un enclave gallego que parece diseñado para la psicodelia pesada. Y el festival vuelve a apostar por esa conexión entre geografía, identidad y distorsión que ya lo distingue.

But Fumega’s appeal isn’t only in its lineup (though putting Conan, Stoned Jesus, Burst and Causa Sui at the top of the bill doesn’t hurt). What sets it apart is how that thick, expansive soundworld inhabits a place like Betanzos, a town where memory and odd architectural dreams coexist. The Pasatempo park feels made for atmosphere: a Galician setting that absorbs distortion the way fog absorbs light.

Un cartel que mezcla continentes… y capas de distorsión

La nueva edición reúne a algunos de los nombres más reconocidos del continente dentro del stoner/desert y el doom, reforzando el posicionamiento del festival como referencia estatal y, ahora, como punto de encuentro europeo para escenas alternativas. Que un núcleo urbano gallego acoja a formaciones de Reino Unido, Ucrania, Suecia, Dinamarca o Islandia habla del alcance creciente del proyecto, pero también de una convicción: lo underground prospera mejor en espacios con identidad que en grandes explanadas sin alma.

This year brings together some of Europe’s standout names in stoner/desert and doom, pushing the festival beyond the “national reference” label and toward something broader. The fact that a small Galician town is welcoming acts from the UK, Ukraine, Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland says a lot about where Fumega is heading – and about a simple truth: underground music thrives in places with personality, not in huge, bleak, cement-filled lots.

La presencia de Conan – titanes británicos de afinaciones doomeras tan bajas que prácticamente perforan el suelo – encaja con la contundencia que marcó la primera edición. Stoned Jesus, con su mezcla de doom, prog y grunge y un historial compartiendo escenario con figuras de primer nivel, aportan un contrapunto melódico.

Burst suman la vertiente progresiva de una banda que regresa a los escenarios con reputación reforzada y Causa Sui, por su parte, continúan siendo esa rara avis capaz de saltar del heavy-psych a paisajes instrumentales que evocan cinco décadas de rock en un solo riff.

Conan, with their earth-boring doom tuning, bring the tectonic force that defined the first edition. Stoned Jesus add melody and sweep with their doom-prog-grunge blend.

Burst return with the sharpened intent of a band whose reputation grew even while they were quiet. And Causa Sui remain that rare outfit able to jump from heavy-psych to widescreen instrumental landscapes that feel like a half-century of rock compressed into a single motion.

Pero donde el festival muestra de verdad su personalidad es en cómo equilibra el mapa. No se queda en los grandes nombres internacionales: Wet Cactus, desde Cantabria, aporta ese cruce entre stoner clásico y mugre noventera que nunca caduca. Y, lo que ancla el Fumega a su territorio: la presencia gallega, no como relleno, sino como columna vertebral del proyecto. Moura, con su cruce de progresivo, psicodelia y tradición, demuestran que el folclore bien entendido no resta peso; lo amplifica, y Luciférnaga, desde Vigo, suman la negrura envolvente del doom introspectivo que encaja a la perfección con la estética del festival.

También se amplía el eje peninsular: Men Eater y Travo, dos nombres sólidos de la escena portuguesa refuerzan el carácter ibérico del cartel. Y Volcanova, desde Islandia, añaden fuzz y armonías a tres voces para rematar la mezcla.

But where Fumega really stands out is in the way it balances all this. It’s not just about flying in big names. Wet Cactus bring their classic-stoner-meets-’90s-grit from the northern Cantabria region of Spain. And grounding the festival in its own territory is its Galician core – not an afterthought, but part of its identity. Moura, weaving prog rock, psychedelia and tradition, show that folk elements, used well, don’t have to dilute heaviness; they can also deepen it. Luciférnaga, from Vigo, add the shadowy, introspective side of doom that fits the festival’s aesthetic with uncanny precision.

The Iberian map widens further with Portugal’s Men Eater and Travo, and Volcanova land from Iceland with fuzz and three-part harmonies to round it all off.

Más que un festival: una escena en construcción

Lo que resulta más significativo de esta edición es que el Fumega ya no se percibe como un “nuevo festival”, sino como una apuesta estratégica para dar hogar a géneros que suelen vivir dispersos en salas pequeñas, fechas sueltas y públicos fieles pero fragmentados.

La promotora PlayPlan, con experiencia contrastada en eventos como SonRías Baixas o BIGSOUND Pontevedra, entiende que para que exista una escena, primero hace falta un punto de encuentro reconocible. Betanzos empieza a convertirse en ese punto.

The most telling thing about this edition is probably that Fumega no longer feels like a “new festival.” It feels like a deliberate attempt to give a real home to stoner, doom and their satellites: genres that usually survive scattered across small rooms, isolated dates, and loyal but fractured followings.

Promoter PlayPlan, with a strong track record in events like SonRías Baixas and BIGSOUND Pontevedra, knows that scenes need recognizable gathering points. And Betanzos is beginning to become one.

Eso, junto al apoyo del concello y un público que el año pasado dejó claro que quiere más, plantea una pregunta: ¿estamos ante el nacimiento de un festival de culto en Galicia? Es pronto para afirmarlo, pero los síntomas están ahí. El festival ha encontrado un espacio narrativo propio entre tradición gallega, ambición internacional y una coherencia estética poco habitual en propuestas de esta escala.

Combined with local support and an audience that made it very clear last year they wanted more, the signs are hard to miss: Fumega has found its own narrative space, somewhere between Galician tradition, international ambition, and an aesthetic coherence rare in festivals of this size.

Betanzos como punto de gravedad

Hay algo casi simbólico en ver cómo un parque histórico como Do Pasatempo se convierte en refugio para guitarras distorsionadas, ritmos pesados y atmósferas envolventes. La identidad gallega atraviesa el festival desde la elección del lugar hasta la convivencia entre artistas locales y foráneos.

There’s something symbolic about watching a century-old park like the Pasatempo become a haven for distorted guitars, heavy rhythms and immersive textures. Galician identity threads through the whole event – from the setting to the dialogue between local and visiting artists.

En un mapa musical saturado de macrofestivales, Fumega destaca por lo contrario: una atmósfera y una coherencia estética que no necesita adornos porque ya cuentan con un marco natural que dialoga con el paisaje brumoso de Betanzos, una escala humana y una relación real con la comunidad que lo acoge.

In a landscape crowded with massive, interchangeable festivals, Fumega stands out by doing the opposite: leaning into atmosphere, coherence, human scale, and a genuine relationship with the community that hosts it. No extra props are required. The natural setting and the fog-softened surroundings of Betanzos do the heavy lifting.

Una cita que apunta a consolidarse

Pero lo importante es la sensación que deja esta edición: Galicia está dando un paso firme dentro del circuito europeo de música alternativa. Que bandas de Reino Unido, Ucrania, Suecia, Dinamarca, Portugal e Islandia confluyan en Betanzos no es casualidad: es una declaración.

But what lingers after seeing this year’s announcement is the sense that Galicia is stepping confidently into Europe’s alternative-music circuit. The convergence of bands from six countries in a small Galician town isn’t coincidence; it’s intent.

En un país donde lo underground suele quedar relegado a espacios dispersos, Fumega apuesta alto. Betanzos ofrece un punto de encuentro que empieza a llamar la atención más allá de Galicia.

Fumega Fest sigue creciendo, sí, pero a su manera. Con raíces. Con oído. Con intención. Y con esa mezcla tan gallega de hospitalidad y contundencia que, en un festival de stoner y doom, funciona a la perfección.
