Charlamos con Robert Jon, que estarán de gira de nuevo por tierras españolas el próximo verano con 7 fechas confirmadas con otro nuevo disco bajo el brazo titulado «Red Moon Rising» que se lanza el 28 de junio. «Dragging me down», «Red Moon Rising», «Ballad of a broken hearted man», «Help yourself», «Hold on» y «Stone Cold Killer» son los primeros adelantos de su próximo álbum.
«Ride Into The Light», es el último trabajo de RJ&TW lanzado este pasado agosto de 2023 lanzando el sello Journeyman Records de Joe Bonamassa y en el que trabajaron junto con los productores Don Was (Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt) y Dave Cobb (Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton), produjeron cuatro canciones del disco «One Of A Kind», «Come At Me», «Who Can You Love» y «Pain No More», Kevin Shirley (Iron Maiden, The Black Crowes), Joe Bonamassa y Josh Smith en las sesiones grabados en los estudios de Sunset Sound Studios en Los Ángeles.
¿Qué podemos esperar de vuestra próxima gira española en junio y julio de 2024? Antes y después de esta gira, ¿Qué tienes en mente? ¿Cuándo podemos esperar de vuestro nuevo álbum? ¿Título? ¿Canciones? ¿Productor?
Tendremos un montón de música nueva cuando hagamos una gira por España este verano. Tenemos un nuevo álbum que saldrá en 2024 y que grabamos con Kevin Shirley en Los Angeles. De hecho, ya hemos comenzado a lanzar música, podéis escuchar nuestras nuevas canciones «Help yourself» “Stone Cold Killer” y “Hold On”.
“Ride into the light” fue vuestro nuevo disco este 2023, ¿Cómo surgió la grabación para el sello de Joe Bonamassa, Journeyman?
Este fue uno de los primeros proyectos que hicimos con el equipo de Journeyman. Grabamos dos canciones con cada productor: Don Was, Dave Cobb, Kevin Shirley, Joe Bonamassa y Josh Smith. La música se lanzó inicialmente digitalmente como dos EP y luego se combinó en un álbum completo para las copias físicas. Fue una excelente manera de trabajar con alguno de los productores top de la escena por primera vez.
Si ya fue importante trabajar con Joe Bonamassa y su sello, ¿cómo fue hacerlo con tres productores tan importantes como Don Was, Dave Cobb y Kevin Shirley y su guitarrista Josh Smith?
Fue un gran honor trabajar con todos esos productores, hicieron algunos de nuestros álbumes favoritos de todos los tiempos. Fue genial porque pudimos grabar con ellos en diferentes ciudades y estudios, lo que le dio a cada par de canciones su propio sonido y su propio feeling. Cada productor tenía también su propia manera de hacer las cosas y fue divertido ver cómo trabajaban en la estructura y los tonos de las canciones en el estudio. ¡Estamos muy contentos con el resultado y todavía no podemos creer que hayamos podido trabajar con ellos!
¿Qué creéis que os falta como formación para dar el golpe final y llegar a mucha más gente y ser verdaderamente reconocidos? ¿Por qué creéis que aún no ha llegado ese momento? ¿Influyen los contactos, las amistades, el típico golpe de suerte?
Realmente todo es suerte. Hay tantas bandas y músicos increíbles en el mundo que no reciben el reconocimiento que merecen. Realmente nunca pensamos en eso, simplemente hacemos lo que hacemos y tratamos de mejorar y disfrutar mientras lo hacemos. Hemos podido ver un crecimiento importante en los últimos dos años, por lo que sólo necesitamos seguir tocando y grabando música. Sea como sea, eso es todo lo que sabemos hacer realmente.
¿Qué bandas y/o músicos os llaman la atención ahora mismo, no sólo en la música más sureña sino también en el panorama rock?
Siempre nos han encantado los Rival Sons. Sus últimos lanzamientos “Lightbringer” y “Darkfighter” han sonado en bucle en nuestra camioneta. Su sonido también nos ha influido mucho. ¡Son viejos amigos nuestros del sur de California y esperamos trabajar con ellos en algún momento del 2024!
¿A qué artistas miráis con más respeto, pensando “Quisiera tener un poco de esto, un poco de aquello, su aspecto elegante, su pelo largo, etc.”?
Tenemos suerte de que todos en la banda escuchan y aprecian diferentes estilos de música, por lo que cuando tocamos juntos todos aportamos diferentes influencias y referencias. No creo que alguna vez hayamos intentado copiar algo de otro artista de manera intencionada, pero se nota que hay cosas que hemos aprendido en el camino simplemente por ser fans de bandas como Allman Brothers, Chris Stapleton o The Black Crowes.
Después de siete álbumes y doce años en el negocio, cuando miráis hacia atrás, ¿Cuáles son los discos o momentos de los que os sentís más orgullosos?
Estamos orgullosos de todos nuestros discos y todos tienen un lugar y un momento especial para nosotros. Lo bueno es que cuando lanzas un álbum al año durante casi una década, capturas la evolución del sonido de la banda. Si escuchas la discografía a lo largo del tiempo, podrás escuchar a la banda convertirse en lo que es hoy. En nuestros shows en vivo también rescatamos material desde nuestro álbum debut hasta lo más actual, no solo tratamos de mostrar todo el material nuevo, ¡nuestro catálogo anterior sigue siendo importante para nosotros y para muchos de nuestros fans también!
Residís en Orange Country, ¿Cómo está esa zona? ¿Tiene una escena o tienes que desplazarte treinta millas a Los Ángeles para sumergirte en ella y encontrar y descubrir nuevas bandas?
El condado de Orange tiene una escena musical increíble, desde sus raíces punk clásicas hasta la escena reggae moderna, hay toneladas de diversidad por todas partes. Cualquier noche, puedes ir al Wayfarer en Costa Mesa y ver una banda increíble de la que probablemente nunca hayas oído hablar antes. Los Ángeles parece estar demasiado saturado de músicos y últimamente hemos visto a mucha gente dirigirse al Condado de Orange para tocar. ¡Estamos felices de ser parte de nuestra escena local!
¿Qué te gustaría decirles a tus fans españoles? ¿Algún pueblo, ciudad o concierto en particular que estés esperando con más ansias o solo todos?
Estamos muy emocionados de regresar a España para una gira como es debido. Hemos estado en Europa varias veces en los últimos dos años pero no pudimos cuadrar una gira por España. Tenemos tanta música nueva, ¡2024 será un gran año para nosotros! España es, con diferencia, uno de nuestros países favoritos para tocar y ¡estamos realmente ansiosos por volver! Simplemente que sepan que siempre nos esforzaremos por llegar allí siempre que podamos, ¡os queremos, chavales!

What can we expect from your coming Spanish tour next June and July of 2024? After or before this tour, what do you have in mind? When can we expect of your new album? Title? Songs? Producer?
We will have a ton of new music by the time we tour Spain this summer. We have a brand new album coming out in 2024 that we recorded with Kevin Shirley in Los Angeles. We’ve actually already begun releasing music from it, go check out our tracks “Stone Cold Killer” & “Hold On”
“Ride into the light”, your new álbum released this 2023, how did recording for Joe Bonamassa’s label, Journeyman, come about?
This was one of the first projects we did with the Journeyman team. We recorded two songs with each producer – Don Was, Dave Cobb, Kevin Shirley and Joe Bonamassa & Josh Smith. The music was initially released digitally as two EPs, and then combined onto one full album for physical copies. It was a great way to get involved with some A list producers for the first time.
If it was important to work with Joe Bonamassa and his label, how was it with three great producers like Don Was, Dave Cobb and Kevin Shirley and guitarist Josh Smith?
It was a huge honor getting to work with all those producers, they’ve made some of our favorite albums of all time. It was cool because we got to record with them in different cities and studios which gave each pair of tracks its own sound and vibe to it. Each producer also had their own way of doing things and it was fun to see how they worked on song structure and tones in the studio. We are really happy with the way it turned out and really still can’t believe we got to work with them!
What do you think you are missing as training to deliver the final blow and reach many more people, be recognized and so on? Why do you think that moment has not yet arrived, do contacts, friendships, the typical stroke of luck influence?
It’s all luck really. There are so many amazing bands and musicians in the world that don’t get the recognition they deserve. We never really think about that though, we just do what we do and try to get better and enjoy ourselves while we’re at it. We can see major growth in the last two years so we just need to keep playing and recording music. That’s really all we know how to do anyway.
What bands and/or musicians are catching your eye right now not only in the more leaned towards southern music but also in the rock and roll based ones?
We have always loved the Rival Sons. Their latest releases “Lightbringer” & “Darkfighter” have been on constant rotation in our van. Their sound has influenced us a lot too. They happen to be old friends of ours from Southern California and we hope to work with them sometime in 2024!
Who do you look at with regard to artists out there over the years where you’ve thought, ‘I’ll have a bit of this, a bit of that, the debonaire look, the big hair etc’
We are lucky that everyone in the band listens to and appreciates different styles of music, so when we play together we all bring different influences and references to the table. I don’t think we’ve ever tried to intentionally take something from an artist, but you can tell there are things we’ve picked up along the way from just naturally being fans of bands like the Allman Brothers, Chris Stapleton or the Black Crowes.
After seven albums and 12 years in business, when you look back, which are the records or moments you feel more proud of?
We are proud of all our records and they all have a special place and time for us. The cool thing is, when you release an album a year for almost a decade, you capture the evolution of the sound of the band. If you listen to the discography over time you can hear the band become what it is today. At our live shows we also cover material from our debut album all the way to whatever is most current, we don’t just try to showcase all the new stuff, our back catalogue is still important to us and a lot of the fans too!
You live Orange Country, what’s that area like for a scene? Does it have a scene or you have to move 30 miles to L.A. to soak in it and find and discover new bands?
Orange County has an amazing music scene, from its classic punk roots to the modern reggae scene, there is tons of diversity all over. On any given night, you can go to the Wayfarer in Costa Mesa and see an amazing band you probably have never heard of before. LA seems to be too saturated with musicians and we’ve actually seen a lot of people head to Orange County for gigs lately. We are happy to be a part of our local scene!
What would like to say to your Spanish fans? Any particular towns, cities or gigs overall that you are looking forward to most or just them all?
We are so excited to return to Spain for a proper tour. We’ve been out to Europe a few times in the last two years and the routing to Spain just didn’t work out. We have so much new music, 2024 is going to be a big year for us! Spain is by far one of our favorite countries to play and we really can’t wait to be back! Just know we will always make it a point to get there whenever we can, we love you guys!
