7.- ¿Sueles escuchar tus propios discos?

Interview to Cord Carpenter previous to the Spanish Tour 2014.

1.- Welcome to Spain Cord, is this your first visit to Spain to play or tourism before?

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, this will be my first time to be in Spain and i am looking forward to it. Its been a place I have wanted to play for years.

2.- Could you tell Spanish audience Cord Carpenter musical background and Who inspires you to do what you do and which musicians that have influenced your sound and approach to creating your own style of music?

I grew up listening to 60’s rock everything from Neil Young and Led Zeppelin to Jackson Browne and Tom Petty. Rock N Roll back then was something magical. Not saying there’s not great rock bands today cause there are but i find myself throwing on a ZZ top or Zeppelin record before i would anything else. Growing up in Texas i found a love for «OLD» country music such as Waylon Jennings, Merle haggard, Willie Nelson, Hank Sr etc… I can’t listen to the new country of today it pretty fucking bad. I am more of a Rock n Roller then anything but i listen to everything.

3.- Ten years at the music business, seven albums and sharing stage with awsome celebrities justify your resume, which experiences have you got for your own?

I have been fortunate to be able to record over the years and really work on my craft. I have shared the stage with many great artist and everyone of them i try to study and learn from. I don’t think there will ever become a time where i stop trying to learn new tricks. My love is to deep for music and artists to be content with any part of what i do.

4.- Have you collaborated with other artists?

I haven’t done to much collaboration in terms of writing. I have in the production side of things. I have songwriting buddies that ill sit down with and we will throw ideas around but i’m pretty reclusive in my writing hours.

5.- In terms of writing your songs, what are the guidelines, Americana Classics or are you open to other trends or give your personal touch?

I don’t have many guidelines when writing. I always try to keep things fresh or else i find that similar things come to the forefront which isn’t always the worst thing if its really good. I’m always open to new ideas that why i really study artist.

6.- Can you innovate or think everything is already invented?

I’m not exactly sure on this one. I sometimes feel like everything has been done but we find new ways to innovate them. Maybe even marry two ideas that have never meet before. I am a very simplistic when it come to musical taste. Id rather 2 chords and the truth then 10 chords and a good solo.

7.- Do you ever lister your own records?

I found myself listening to this new record a lot more then i have any others. I think its more of a comfort thing for me. I hear them so much in the writing, recording , and mixing process that i usually don’t wanna to hear them much.

8.- When getting into stage, where your are more comfortable in a little club or big venue?

I think playing in front of a big crowd is easier just because u know they are there to listen to you. Smaller clubs a lot of the time you have to grab their attention before they will listen so it can be more difficult. Really i like playing just about anywhere.

9.- With your music, How do you intend to get message out there? In your performances any bad turn or any great memories.

The best feeling is when someone connects with a song that has nothing to do with what the songs means to me. People connect in so many different ways. I want people to leave with a feeling and that feeling be something they have been needing.

10.- Would you mind send Dirty Rock readers a message and encourage them to see you in your upcoming shows in Spain Cord Carpenter?

I hope everyone can come check us out at a local club near by. We will give u a rock show that you won’t forget. I excited for the opportunity of playing for you all and really looking forward to making new friends. If you all teach me some Spain influenced dance moves ill teach you some Texas white boy moves (they are not that great). See you all soon. Cheers!
