Casi 35 años después, coetáneos en Atlanta junto a R.E.M., The Georgia Satellites, Confederate Railroad, Col.

¿Alguna vez pensaste que «Straight to hell» , Honeysuckle blue» and «Fly me corageous» tuvieron aquel éxito masivo?

¿Qué has estado escuchando últimamente?

Pues a Dino’s Boys, Bad Spell o Rust.

Me gusta Time Tunnel, Star Trek y Colombo !!

Interview to Kevn Kinney

This is your first Drivin N Cryin disc in a decade, what can you tell us about «Live the Love Beautiful»? and what bring you to this new Spanish and European tour with these 16 dates?

Just thought it was time to share my stories and ideas thoughts in my view of the world how to live in it how to survive how to be a good person how to be free how to rise above how to have fun how to rock how to roll hard to believe in the unbelievable how to be happy on the days you don’t want to be music is always helped me

And by helping me I’m singing to myself and if you want you can listen and maybe you see a little bit of yourself in that moment as well

We’re looking forward to sharing our live concerts with you I think it’s been too long…

HERE WE COME!!!’

How did you decide to have Aaron Lee Tasjan to produce «Live the Love Beautiful»?

Well just listening to Aaron’s records lately are very impressive

I like his sonic sounds scapes and his attention to detail

I thought he makes really great albums and complicated as well

but also very simple at the same time

its not easy to produce a record ,it’s like directing a film you have to get all the actors and the screen writers and the story arc and the egos and the desires all in line…

He did an amazing job

It’s true that Chuck Prophet recommended it to you?

First of all I think Chuck is one of the greatest songwriters of my generation and his record sound just amazing

As far is his recommendation of Aaron …

Well it’s possible …me and Chuck were talking about how great it is to have young guitar players that we are learning from ..he has a great guitar player in his band as well

You’re never too old to learn as long as you realize that you really know nothing about everything but you know a little everything about it all

If you could just take a minute to listen

Could you Tell me about how the songs came together for this record? Is there a new song that makes you feel the best?

I record a lot of music on my voice memo on my phone and when we got together at errands living room we just kind of started constructing some ideas and some of the notes that I had in my notebooks and I just wanted to have a record that was a feel good record and honest record

I think my favorite song is «what’s wrong with being happy»

How did you get Laur Joamets, Sturgill Simpson former guitarist to play with you?

We kidnapped him

Please do not tell Sturgill were he is!!!

And Dan Baird and Elizabeth Cook makes a guest appearance on the álbum?

Two of my best friends !!!

I can’t say enough Great things about both of them… it’s amazing to me how many great albums and great songs that they’ve written they are also both great performers very hard-working

Musicians constantly touring!!I am very honored to have them on our Album

Did you ever think that «Straight to hell» , Honeysuckle blue» and «Fly me corageous» would be a hits?

Not really

I thought

Malfunction Junction

Chain Reaction and Let’s go Dancing would though!!’

Do you see current comparisons to the Atlanta scene you were a part of when Drivin N Cryin started in the mid-’80s? When you heard Black Crowes break out, was there any frustration? What do you think it happened?

I’ve always been a fan of the Black Crowes I think Chris Robinson is one of my favorite rock singers.

music is not a competition but I did feel like it was when I was young so they were obvious frustrations in the way that they were presented by the record company and we were presented by ours but it’s two totally different kinds of art that’s what I like about my life right now

I’m only competing with myself

Legend has it that you never, ever use a set list. How do you balance a live show with new material and fan favorites? Or do you?

I just go with what feels right ..

The reason I don’t use Setlist is because I used to use them and then when I came upon a song I didn’t feel like singing it was not great so I told myself I would never do that again and so now I just read the audience and read the bandmembers

It’s not an easy thing to be a member in this band and you have to know almost 100 songs and I rarely tell you what song will be next I usually just start it or scream it out

What have you been listening to?

I’ve listening to a lot of Joe South lately

Really interesting pop from the sixties early seventies

He’s from here in Georgia …

he wrote Hush.

Check it out

Any good band from Atlanta you recommend or from wherever?

Dino’s Boys

Bad Spell.

Rust

What’s one personal item you must have with you on your road trip?

My wife made me two wooden figurines of my dogs Gertie and Groovy

I like to take pictures of them all over the world ..

This will be their first trip to Spain!!’

What’s the biggest difference between this generation and the generation your 14- year-old son is growing up in?

I think I learn more from them than they want to from me …

My granddaughter turns me on to a lot of great music … and some I can’t stand

I turn off anything that uses Bitches or talks about how rich they are …

But I love Billie Eilish..

I had to join the Ed Sheeran fan club so I can get her tickets to the concert he’s got a lot of great songs…

Don’t tell the old punk rocker in me that though

What is your relationship with food? How do you handle this on the road, and what’s your favorite dish on the road, (or restaurant, and what do you order there)?

I love to cook at home …

I think I’ve been To a restaurant five times this year when I’m home …. usually sushi Vietnamese Indian or Korean ..

those I can’t cook

Food on the road is a million time better than in the eighties … it used to be hamburgers or hamburgers!!

The YELP app is great for touring

I can get some pretty healthy options..

I’m so sick of restaurants after 40 years of traveling though

How do you like your coffee or other morning wake-up beverage?

My wife makes me a cup of coffee with a shot of espresso and steamed milk every morning …

I call it End Of The World Coffee!

What do you watch on television?

I only have a television in my bedroom.., and really love to watch old tv shows !!!

I like Time Tunnel ,Star Trek and Columbo!!

When the name of Donald Trump comes to mind, what is the first thing that comes to mind?

Oompah Loompah

Will there be a new Drivin N Cryin record in the pipeline?

I would very much like the next album to feature songs and / or vocals from all four of us …

So whenever we can rehearse that aspect we will figure it out …

They are all great songwriters !

What message do you want to give to our readers before your concert in Spain?

Every shows my first

Every shows my last

Never two shows the same …

What can they expect from you?

The true adventures of a rock band that never gives up !!!
