«Highway Butterfly: The Songs Of Neal Casal» es el título del disco homenaje a Neal Casal que incluye versiones de 41 canciones escritas por Neal Casal y que estará disponible el 12 de noviembre en una caja de 3 cd’s o 5 Lp’s. El cartel de participantes en el disco es realmente apabullante contando con Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Warren Haynes, Circles Around The Sun, Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks, Billy Strings, Hiss Golden Messenger, Fruit Bats, Steve Earle & The Dukes, Jonathan Wilson, Vetiver , Shooter Jennings, Beachwood Sparks & GospelbeacH, Marcus King, Eric Krasno, J Mascis, Cass McCombs, Johnathan Rice, Leslie Mendelson, Oteil Burbridge & Duane Trucks, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Tim Bluhm, Mapache, Puss N Boots y The Allman Betts Band, entre otros.

Billy Strings y CATS  versionó «All The Luck In The World» en junio pasado, y Beachwood Sparks y GospelbeacH lo hacen con “You Don’t See Me Crying”:

Los beneficios del disco irán a parar a la organización sin fines de lucro Neal Casal Music Foundation , que suministra instrumentos musicales y lecciones en Nueva Jersey. y las escuelas estatales de Nueva York de donde era Neal Casal . Los ingresos adicionales se destinarán a organizaciones de salud mental que apoyan a los músicos, MusiCares y Backline.Care .

Casal tenía 50 años cuando murió por suicidio en agosto de 2019. Su lista de colaboraciones es interminable y maravillosa. Uno de los músicos más queridos en la escena. Más de una docena de discos publicados en solitario de Neal Casal, tres con su banda Hazy Malaze y otros muchos en diferentes proyectos: The Jayhawks, Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams, Phil Lesh y Rufus Wainwright, pasó cuatro años como guitarrista principal con Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, The Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Circles Around the Sun, Jesse Aycock, GospelbeacH, Hard Working Americans, Shooter Jennings, Amanda Shires, The Tyde, Danny And The Champions Of The World, Skiffle Players, Skiffle Players,  Jaime Wyatt, Nicki Bluhm, Beachwood Sparks, Mark Olson o Courtney Jaye, entre otros muchos. Casal también grabó y lanzó 14 álbumes en solitario bajo su propio nombre.

Highway Butterfly: The Songs Of Neal Casal fue coproducido por los antiguos colaboradores de Casal, Jim Scott, y el bajista de Widespread Panic / Hard Working Americans, Dave Schools . El amigo de Casal y manager de toda la vida, Gary Waldman, también fue parte de la reunión de los 130 músicos participantes que, en conjunto, versionaron 41 de las canciones originales de Casal.
